11.07.09

I've already discovered that owning a house means spending about:

30% of your time in the house you bought and love,

30% of your time in Home Depot looking at, planning for, and buying all the stuff you want to add to the house you bought and love, and the other

40% at work earning the cash to pay for it all.

Approximately.

If it's not obvious, this is how we spent most of today...looking for stuff we just *had* to have from Home Depot.

I told Todd, "maybe you should have actually bought a Home Depot instead of a home." He gave me a that's-not-such-a-bad-idea look before realizing I was kidding.

Yikes.

Home Depot - our new home away from home.

It's moving day, it's moving day!!

And I have a GARAGE!

Don't my car and Nancy look great in my garage?

*Squeeeeeeal* <--- me, squealing with delight!

I've been feeling nervous about how our bedroom furniture might fit in our conservatively-sized (okay, it's small!) new master bedroom. We actually have a much larger second bedroom and I considered moving us into there, but then we miss out on the master bathroom.

So, I measured the master bedroom today, and our bedroom furniture, and sketched it all out to scale on graph paper (using a legitimate NCEES testing pencil from Todd's SE exam, no less!) and all my fears are completely gone. There is plenty of room. Sometimes it's just really hard to visualize how furniture in one house will actually fit in the other. But now, I'm just excited to move in!

Tonight after work, we moved my Cabrio over to the house. Fortunately, we have a nice large side yard for temporary storage, and big plans for the car come December.

The weather here has been unbelievable, and I thought this was great evidence of that. I drove it with the top down the 4-5 miles from our old place to the new and was perfectly comfortable.

Heated leather seats don't hurt, but still...it's NOVEMBER! Crazy.

Today after work, Todd installed a cat/(future dog?) door in our laundry room leading out to the garage. It's an older door, we're here for the long haul, and we figure the cats will really love to be able to greet us when we come home, and I know Cozy will love sitting out there on our cars while Todd works with his tools and such.

We're nervously excited to bring them over to their new home, and trying to make it as comfy as possible for them once they live here too.

We closed, recorded, and got the keys to our house today!!

After working on some miscellaneous improvement projects, we ordered Chinese food, bought a bottle of the champagne we served at our wedding, and celebrated with dinner on the floor in our family room, toasting our future and each other in our wedding toasting flutes.

And we slept on the floor in our spare bedroom on a futon mattress.

We are absolutely over-the-moon happy and excited to move into the house in just 4 days!

We had our final walk thru at our house today, and will get keys tomorrow!

This is our kitchen sink and window, looking out into our backyard through a lemon tree.

I see lots of these in our future.

This morning, Todd bribed me with Starbucks and got me to help him move offices/work spaces at work. He got a pretty major upgrade after almost 4 years in his previous cube.

This one is about twice the size, and he has a window seat that looks out on some trees and squirrels and parking lot.

It was actually kind of fun (in a dork-tastic way) to get him all set up in the new digs.

Happy Halloween!

Shug has become such a cuddly and loving cat since we moved to this new place in April.

It has been a really drastic change.

I hope we're not gonna be asking for a change back with our next (very quickly approaching) move.

Todd's friend Catherine took the SE exam with him last week.

Catherine lives in Redding, so it was a treat to have her staying in Sacramento for the evening, even if it was to take that dreaded exam. Her and her husband George came by for dinner on Friday night (exam day one) and we had a great time with the two of them.

Super sweet Catherine sent us a Thank You card today for that Friday night's festivities (which she reeeeally didn't have to do. I, for one, would completely understand if she wanted to remember NO part of her jaunt to Sacramento. That test did not sound fun.)

Really looking forward to hopefully spending more time with those two again soon. And totally wishing they lived closer.
